Celebrity Spotlight: Emma Watson

"If, when buying an item, whatever it may be, people have the choice to buy Fair Trade or non Fair Trade, they should buy the Fair Trade item. It really does make all the difference." "It empowers people and doesn't take away their dignity." - Emma Watson

Attention all fans of Harry Potter‘s Hermione Granger: There’s now even more reason to love Emma Watson!

Emma Watson is making her own magic as a fair trade supporter.  She has collaborated with British Fair Trade company People Tree on a new line of comfy, classic, youthful clothing called Love from Emma.  (Note, while People Tree is based in London, they do deliver to the USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand).

Check out this super fun, behind-the-scenes video of Emma’s catalog shoot for People Tree:

For more information about how the Fair Trade movement has impacted Emma, check out the following videos of her trip to Bangladesh – one of the world’s poorest countries, which produces much of the clothing we wear in the Western world:

Thanks for inspiring us, Emma! And for collaborating on such cute clothes!

You’re right, Emma, Clothes are fabulous and can transform the way someone feels about themselves, and [with Fair Trade,] you can transform someone’s life at the same time, which is a pretty amazing thing to do.”

Super Chic Fair Trade Note Cards

We are absolutely loving these super chic Fair Trade note cards from Arte Comasgua (Available at Chicago’s Greenheart Shop / Check out their Online Store):

Très élégant! Wouldn’t these cards make a fabulous framed collection?

Not only do these cards look great, but the women who create these awesome flower art pieces have a truly inspirational story:

“This fair trade eco friendly card[s] [are] handmade by women whose homes in El Salvador’s highland cloud forest were destroyed by a devast[at]ing earthquake and mudslides in 2001. It left many families homeless and jobless. With their fields destroyed, many people began traveling long hours to low-paying factory jobs in the capital. A group of enterprising women, however, formed Arte Comasgua, an artisans’ organization that handcrafts stylish designs from native flowers and plants. These women now work locally, caring for the families and saving for their future. These striking greeting cards represent a woman’s hope for the future.”

Wow!  Even more reason to love these charming cards!

Our New Fair Trade Crush: Capiz and Coco Wind Chime/Chandelier

Wow!  This wind chime/chandelier available from the Global Exchange Store is so gorgeous it hurts.

A melange of turquoise, green, and gold capiz shell accented by carved coconut shell twinkle, shimmer, and sing in the wind and sun. Hang a cordset inside to create a stunning hanging lamp, or just listen to them tinkle on the porch!

We use this beautiful lamp as a bedroom chandelier, and it simply radiates elegance.  Seriously, one of our favorite Fair Trade purchases ever!

What makes it even better is that this awesome wind chime/chandelier is eco-friendly:

Capiz shells, or Jingle Oysters grow like weeds in shallow sea beds. Before fishermen got creative, they were only collected for the meat and the shells were discarded. Now nothing is wasted, as seen in this beautiful exotic piece.  . . .

This product is brought to you through Zen Zen, a business that works with communities in Bali, Indonesia educating local villagers in conservation, sustainable development and organic farming.

You absolutely won’t regret investing in this devastatingly pretty fair trade piece.  Seriously, we are in lamp lurve.*
